Redding painted the first triptych of the series on Jan. 2 and stopped work for several months, due to suddenly witnessing the death of Mike Boyles on Jan. 5. The triptych was one of the last things Boyles and Redding discussed and Boyles saw before passing. The triptych is photographed on the floor as Boyles gazed upon them in his last moments on earth. Almost three months later, Redding forged ahead painting eight works. Redding said: "This was never meant to be a series of paintings. It really started with the triptych. Mike was never an art admirer but told me the night he died that he liked them. It was after he died that I had to fight anger, insomnia, fatigue and downright depression to conceptualize and finish them." These works elevate the line of "Deconstruction" art first created by Redding while living and painting in Brussels in 2014. Redding defines the "Deconstruction" paintings by crafting paint around raw exposed canvas through constructive methods. He used his gestural smeared technique with a vexing mix of sgraffito over Jackson Pollock's drip style.
